Dr. Bill Westafer assumed the pastorate of the historic First Baptist Church of Cowpens on July 19, 2009. He has served more than twenty years in the ministry. He ministered for three years on the staff of Dr. John Maxwell, noted leadership expert, while in California. In addition to serving as a pastor, Dr. Westafer has been an administrator in Christian higher education and a businessman.
Bill holds an undergraduate degree in English and the Master’s in theology. He recently earned the Ed.D. from Ball State University with a cognate in Executive Development. He presented his research on “Clergy Stress: The Efficacy of Coping Strategies” at the Midwest Scholars Conference in the Spring 2009 in Indianapolis.
Bill has been married for twenty-six years to Lyn and they have two grown children. He has a heart to help pastors cope with stress and improve their quality of life in both their ministry and their family.
