Great Inspirational Quotes About Leadership

Quotes and Sayings About Leadership BehaviorGreat Inspirational Quotes About Leadership

In their book, Spiritual Leadership, Henry and Richard Blackaby share some powerful quotes and sayings about leadership behavior.

Henry T. Blackaby is the founder and president emeritus of Blackaby Ministries International, an organization built to help people experience God.

Richard Blackaby has served as the president of Blackaby Ministries International since July 2006. Richard is the oldest child of Henry and Marilynn Blackaby.

Here are some great inspirational quotes about leadership behavior from the Blackaby’s.

“Leaders lead followers.  Great leaders lead leaders.”  p. 134

“Sometimes insecurity can drive people to hoard all the leadership opportunities for themselves so that no one else appears as capable or as successful.  Other times leaders get so caught up in their own work that they fail to invest time in developing other leaders in the organization.”  p.134

“…General George Marshall kept a “black book” of all the soldiers he believed showed promise for future leadership.  Whenever he encountered someone who demonstrated leadership ability, he added his name to the book.  When a vacancy came up in the officer corps, he referred to his book, where he kept track of an ample supply of qualified candidates.  The system enabled Marshall to develop a large military organization filled with talented and effective officers.” p. 135

“Developing leaders must be a core value of any leader.” p. 136

“Leaders give people freedom to fail.” p. 137

“If leaders are going to develop other leaders, they must delegate.  But when they delegate, they must not interfere.  Nothing will demoralize staff faster than leaders who constantly meddle in their work.  Once a task has been assigned to someone, it needs to belong to that person.” p. 137

“Good leaders delegate.  They resist interfering.  Then, when the job is done, they give credit where it is deserved.  One of the greatest reward a leader can give people, even more than remuneration, is recognition.” p. 138

“The need for affirmation and a show of gratitude is especially acute in voluntary organizations.”  p. 138

“If the people are successful, the people receive the credit.  If the people fail, the leaders shoulder the responsibility.  In leadership, this fact goes with the territory.” p. 139

“People need to know that their leader will stand by them when they fail.” p. 140

This is a great post! Some great quotes here that all leaders can learn from. I think the big, key point to take away is that if you’re a leader, you need to train and mentor others to become leaders and then get out of their way and let them lead. Great way to sum up the book, Dale! (now I have to go read it) :)
