Billy Graham Quotes on Leadership

has proven himself not only to be a man of great character but also a man of strong wisdom.  I recently came across a book by Harold Myra and Marshall Shelley entitled, The Leadership Secrets of Billy Graham.  At the conclusion of each chapter Myra and Shelley posted a quote from Dr. Graham that I found to be helpful for anyone attempting to grow as a strong and healthy leader.

Here are those :

“Art and education may refine the taste, but they cannot purify the heart and regenerate the individual.  His (Christ’s) words were simple yet profound.  And they shook people, provoking either happy acceptance or violent refection.  People were never the same after listening to him….The people who followed Him were unique in their generation.  They turned the world upside down because their hearts had been turned right side up.  The world has never been the same.” (p. 35)

“A keen sense of humor helps us overlook the unbecoming, understand the unconventional, tolerate the unpleasant, overcome the unexpected, and outlast the unbearable.” (p. 52)

“When wealth is lost, nothing is lost.  When health is lost, something is lost.  When character is lost, everything is lost.” (p. 63)

“I want to lobby for .” (p. 77)

“Hot heads and cold hearts never solved anything.” (p. 90)

“I have read the last page of the Bible.  It’s all going to turn out all right.” (p. 106)

“The test of a preacher is that his congregation goes away saying not, “What a lovely sermon!” but, “I will do something.” (p. 148)

“Courage is contagious: When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are stiffened.” (p. 164)

“Mountaintops are for views and inspiration, but fruit is grown in the valleys.” (p.176)

“Comfort and prosperity have never enriched the world as much as adversity has.” (p. 189)

measures people by the small dimensions of humility and not by the bigness of their achievements or the size of their capabilities.” (p. 203)

“Prayer is not just asking. It is listening for God’s orders.” (p. 219)

“Tears shed for self are tears of weakness, but tears shed for others are a sign of strength.” (p. 237)

“The men who followed were unique in their generation.  They turned the world upside down because their hearts had been turned right side up.” (p. 256)

“The most eloquent prayer is the prayer through hands that heal and bless.” (269)

“In God’s economy, a person must go down into the valley of grief before he or she can scale the heights of spiritual glory…..One must come to the end of “self” before one can really begin to live.” (p. 286)

“Unless the soul is fed and exercised daily, it becomes weak and shriveled.  It remains discontented, confused, restless.” (p. 302)

“I am selling the greatest product in the world.  Why shouldn’t it be promoted as well as soap?” (p. 314)

“In an age that is given over to cynicism, coldness, and doubt and in which the and warmth of God is conspicuous for its absence in the world, my heart cry is, Let the fall…..O, God, let the of your love fall on us.” (p. 327)
